   POMPEI AND VESUVIUS

Today Pompei receives numbers of visitors wishing to discover what remains of the antic splendours of the Roman Empire in 80 B.C. Pompei was semi destroyed and covered following the eruption of the Volcano Mount Vesuvius in 79 B.C. and forgotten for years.

The excavations started in the 18th century and gradually uncovered he fabulous villas with alfrescos preserved over time, an amphitheatre and much more to show the prosperity of the city in the past.
The excavation works have not yet finished and continue to this day with the aim of donating treasures of the past to the modern world.
After the visit there is free time for lunch followed by a visit to the crater of Mount Vesuvius, the origin of such destruction.

Vesuvius dominates the Gulf of Naples and is visited by 1000 coaches a day. After which one continues to the crater on foot for the official guided tour.
